Food Deserts & How to overcome that with sustainable Agriculture
In the US we have instances of food deserts where the agriculture is all export based either out of state or out of country. We are growing massive amounts of rice, corn, soybean to be sold at markets for poultry or feedstock or to feed populations of other countries. While these food deserts contain good soil typicallywith adequate growing conditions no agriculture is put in there except for these staple food items. This makes for unsustainable land practices in addition to lack of variety of foods available to these populations.
To combat this I think it would be valuable to invest in small scale farms, placed in buildings to keep it environmentally sustainable with a small footprint and high grow rate as well as producing produce for these areas in a more sustainable fashion. I believe that this would help alleviate this chronic nutritional shortage which could be refined and implemented eventually worldwide.
