Technopreneurship For The People
My heart has always been set in arts, with the passion of storytelling and creative illustrations. The pursue in the engineering track began when my mother denied me the chance to pursue my 'passion'. She thought it was the practical way, there's no money in arts especially in this developing country. She just wanted me to secure my future because she believed, in engineering, there's money. Plenty of 'em. That mentality is common to us Filipinos and it's all rooted to two reasons: poverty and corruption.
Of course, our one-track goal is to get a degree, get a job, get a house, get married and settle down...rich. Because I'm already an engineer. I am entitled to bountiful wealth. But as soon as I enrolled in one of the fast-evolving engineering schools, I learned that there's more than just having a title of Engineer attached to my name. I learned that being an engineer is dedication to science and technology that improves the lives of people, rich and poor alike, without compromising Mother Earth. And there are many ways to be 'that' engineer. Either you could work for a company with that mission or you can start from scratch. And with the rising unemployment, I heard from experts that to increase job vacancies, new companies and new entrepreneurs must emerge. And I thought, why can't I be one of those new entrepreneurs? Technopreneur, even. Now, I'd like to pursue engineering and be a starter of a company or a small business with a mission of providing products and services that improves lives of people, is nature-friendly and generate job opportunities for the people.
As for my passion? There's a perfect time for that. Just for once in my life, I'd like to be a person with significant contribution to my people, to the Filipinos that had always provided food that we can eat on the table but got nothing in return.
