India's Youth and media
It is a Global village. We are all connected to each other. This vast world called the Internet has virtual lives stuck in it.
Yes, social media is a big part of my life; and yes, probably bigger than any other generation. Humans are social animals. We always like to remain in some group or another, and we prefer to follow what this group does.
I am about to do what old people have done throughout history: call those younger than me lazy, entitled, selfish and shallow. “My generation” doesn’t enjoy personal life and have become increasingly less personal. Many of us even want to abandon our social presences because we’re so sick of the constant bombardment.
As of 2015 the world’s largest social networking company, Facebook, has 1.49 billion active users, and the number of users is increasing every year.
Pick any Facebook account and the whole life story of a person is in front of you. In a country like India, where there is freedom of speech but with the tag, “terms and conditions apply” one can express themselves through social media. Free speech is so last century. Today’s youth want the ‘right to be comfortable’
As per media, we are the spoilt brat but I though my generation is the future of the country. Every other news you see has some youth doing something bad and the blame is put on mobile phones, social media, and exposure to outside world.
I feel if the media portrays things that are really valid without the “mirch and masala” many things will come on line. Around 43% of the world’s population is 25 years old or younger. This young group is impatient and ready to change the world.
It’s not the media, but the people behind it who have a bad opinion about our generation especially girls. More media companies should consider making amends.
There is a need to change the mindset of people rather than the view of the media. A lot of things will come in place.
