YouthVoices is a pioneering digital initiative that seeks to tell stories of the global youth unemployment crisis as they are seen, heard and felt by young people around the world.
Our user-generated, multimedia storytelling platform — from Contribly Ltd, running on technology developed by the Guardian — gives youth a powerful way to share their own struggles and successes related to education, work, job seeking and entrepreneurship.
Whether their stories are shared in text, photos, video or audio, we are putting those who are most affected at the center of the conversation about youth and the economy. We aim to reengineer the international community’s response to the jobs crisis.
The GroundTruth Project and its partners will select a diverse group of stories for development into in-depth features that we'll publish with top media outlets through our continuing Special Report, Generation TBD.
User-generated content may also be included in current news articles, making our contributors an important part of developing stories. We will always credit the use of images or videos. In essence, our users will have the chance to shape the way we bring the news to audiences.

Generation TBD is a project of The GroundTruth Project, the Global Center for Youth Employment, and RTI International with support from the Ford Foundation and MacArthur Foundation. The project is part of “Generation TBD,” a Ford-supported multimedia series launched in 2014 by GroundTruth in partnership with GlobalPost, NBC News, Huffington Post and PRI’s The World.
What is The GroundTruth Project?
The GroundTruth Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that trains and mentors the next generation of storytellers, based at WGBH in Boston.
At the core of what we do is the idea of "ground truth", which, put simply, means being on the ground to tell the story. The origin of the word actually comes from NASA — when NASA measures something with a satellite, an employee on the ground takes the same measurement. That human measurement is known as "ground truth".
Through our work, GroundTruth is dedicated to furthering knowledge and understanding on issues of social justice including human rights, freedom of expression, emerging democracies, the environment, religious affairs and global health.
What’s the Global Center for Youth Employment?
The Global Center for Youth Employment is a virtual learning and action center founded by RTI International. The GCYE brings together a broad, diverse coalition of allies to find innovative youth employment solutions, assess demand-driven education, connect young people to existing jobs, and work with employers to increase new employment opportunities for youth.
